The Evergreen Lake North Trail Project was launched in response to the closure of the trail along CO 74 on the north side of Evergreen Lake between Upper Bear Creek Road and Evergreen Dam in Spring 2016. The aim of this project is to create a multimodal transportation system that will enhance bike and pedestrian facilities, while also addressing urgent drainage and stability issues, under a critical trail linkage adjacent to CO 74 on the north side of Evergreen Lake in Evergreen, Colorado.

Evergreen Lake Project

The project involves widening the trail to meet AASHTO criteria for shared use paths, improving fishing opportunities, wildlife viewing, and enhancing drainage and bank stabilization. Its ultimate goal is to collaborate with the community, stakeholders, and funders to create a long-term solution for the Evergreen Lake North Trail, thereby improving safety, accessibility, and connectivity in the area.

The Evergreen Lake North Trail improvement is a seven-year, multi-agency initiative spearheaded by the Evergreen Park & Recreation District (EPRD) and contracted to be carried out by ESCO Construction of Evergreen. The project has been primarily funded by grants and contributions from various organizations such as Denver Regional Council of Governments; Jefferson County Open Space, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Evergreen Metropolitan District, CDOT, Great Outdoors Colorado, Colorado Department of Local Affairs, Evergreen Legacy Fund, and EPRD, with about 91% of the construction project budget coming from federal, state, and grant funding. The project is grateful for the support of the Evergreen community, stakeholders, funders, and partners.

When Does Evergreen Lake Construction Start and End?

Construction is scheduled to commence by mid- to late-April 2023 and is expected to continue until fall 2023, with working hours from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The project’s location near the lake’s edge involves road and retaining wall improvements, with CO 74 reduced to a single eastbound lane only between Upper Bear Creek Road and the JC-73 intersection. For westbound traffic, a detour will be in place via Meadow Drive, and the Evergreen Lake North Trail will be closed for pedestrians during construction. A trail detour around the south and west sides of Evergreen Lake will be provided.

Douglas Park Road is a residential neighborhood and is not an approved detour route, so motorists are advised to use the Meadow Drive established detour. During construction, delays of up to 10 minutes are expected, and loads wider than 12 feet will be restricted through the work zone.
